Do you receive phone calls or messages on your iPhone from people that you prefer would leave you alone?

Luckily there are ways to permanently block a phone number and thanks to the most recent iOS 7 update from Apple, this is a built in functionality.

Be aware though that any number you block from your contact list, will be prevented from

  • calling you,
  • sending you an SMS (text message),
  • iMessage, and
  • FaceTime

It's an all or nothing block. You cannot just block someone from sending you an SMS, for example.

How To Add A Phone Number To The Block List On An iPhone

If the phone number is in your list of contacts:

  • Click on Settings
  • Select Messages
  • Scroll down until you see Blocked
  • Select Add New
  • And then select the contact that you want to block

If someone recently called you, how can you block them:

  • Select your phone icon
  • Navigate to Recents
  • Touch the blue information circle (i) that is next to the phone number
  • Scroll down and you will see an option that says 'Block This Caller'
  • Select and the number will be blocked

If someone recently sent you a message, how can you block them:

  • Select the messages icon
  • Select the message from the phone number that you want to block
  • Select 'contact' which is located in the upper right corner on the screen
  • Touch the blue information circle (i) that is next to the phone number
  • Scroll down and you will see an option that says 'Block This Caller'
  • Select and the number will be blocked

If someone recently sent you a face time request, how can you block them:

  • Select the face time icon
  • Touch the blue information circle (i) that is next to the phone number
  • Scroll down and you will see an option that says 'Block This Caller'
  • Select and the number will be blocked

If you decide to unblock a number from your blocked list,

  • Select settings
  • Touch phone
